Safetied is a logbook for aircraft mechanics, made by Insoc LLC. This page says what the app does with your information. It is written from what the app actually does.
Short version
- Your records live on your device.
- The app has no accounts, no analytics and no third-party SDKs.
- iCloud sync is optional, Pro only, and uses your own private CloudKit database.
- Purchases go through Apple. Insoc receives no payment details.
- The only network requests the app makes itself are two update checks.
Where your records are stored
Entries, signatures, aircraft, credentials and the photos you attach are stored on your device. The app keeps a readable archive of your signed entries in its Documents folder, which you can see in the Files app and export at any time. Insoc runs no server that receives your records.
iCloud sync
Sync is off unless you turn it on, and it is a Pro feature. When it is on, Safetied uses your private CloudKit database, the part of iCloud that belongs to your Apple Account. Insoc has no access to it. Sync is handled by Apple’s CloudKit, under your iCloud settings and Apple’s terms.
Your signing key
When you sign an entry, the signature is made with a P-256 key created in the Secure Enclave of your device. The key never leaves the device. Each signature is confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. Only the public half of the key appears in your records, exports and printed codes.
Camera and photos
The camera is used to photograph the logbook page after you apply a sticker, and to scan a verification code. Photos you take are stored with the entry they belong to. Face ID and Touch ID are used only to confirm that it is you when you sign. The app does not request access to your whole photo library, your location, your microphone or your contacts. If you choose to attach an existing photo, you pick it in Apple’s photo picker and the app receives only what you pick.
Notifications
Reminders for Form 337 due dates, IA renewal and credential expiry are local notifications scheduled on your device. The app asks you first, on a card in Today, and asks the system for permission only after you agree. You can turn them off in Settings.
Purchases
Safetied Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles payment and Insoc receives no payment details. The app asks Apple whether you own Pro.
Network requests
The app makes two requests of its own, both for update prompts:
- An App Store lookup at
itunes.apple.com, which includes the app’s bundle identifier and the store country. - A small
version.jsonfile hosted at wesleymatlock.com, which says the oldest version still supported.
Both are plain downloads that carry none of your records, and the app uses a session that keeps no cache. As with any request, the host sees your IP address. Being offline never blocks the app. Apart from these, the app talks only to iCloud (if you turn sync on) and the App Store.
The verification page at safetied.app/v makes no network requests. The code you scan is read in the page itself and is never sent to a server. The marketing pages on this site use no analytics, no cookies and no third-party requests.
Analytics and third parties
The app has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes its records, photos and archive from your device. Files you have already exported or shared with others stay with them. If you used sync, turning iCloud off for Safetied removes the synced copy from the device, and the data stored in your iCloud account is managed in your iCloud settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it.
